Avicii calls it a day: 2016 is officially his last year on tour

In a heartfelt letter, Swede sensation Avicii bares it all

Arguably one of the most popular figures in EDM. Avicii, has hung up his boots on an illustrious electronic career. The man behind many chartbusting singles such as ‘Levels’ and ‘Silhouettes’ , Tim Bergling has become a cult figure in the electronic music scene. The Swede hit it big with tracks such as “Sunshine” with David Guetta, “I could be the one” with Nicky Romero and “Hey Brother”.

He released a lengthy blog post thanking his fans, his manager, brother and partner Ash and his friends for their continued support throughout his career. He focussed that 2016 is the year he chose to introspect, just focussing on himself and his music, his sense of direction and his interests in different areas. His last album Stories came out in 2015 and has repeatedly been taking time to focus on his personal life and getting back to “normalcy” from a challenging, stressful tour schedule. His blog post stated that 2016 will be his last year on tour and has no imminent plans to return.

However his fans do have a shred of hope to hold on to as he did leave us hanging in a bit of suspense when he signed off saying: “One part of me can never say never, I could be back …but I won’t be right back.” Is this just a sabbatical from the big bad wolf of the music business, a breather to regain composure, or is he quitting cold turkey?

He has performances lined up at CreamFields and EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) and also a Dubai tour coming up. These may be his last few live performances before he quits for good. It is fair to say that he had a huge impact in the direction of EDM today and has been a real joy to watch live with his inimitable energy and spinning skills.
