Nagarjuna Sagar Dam – 164 km
Once the weekend arrives and if you are looking to do something entirely different than your regular lunch or clubbing plans, then you should take a trip to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.
Tourism plays an important role in one’s life. However, when there is no scope for tours of longer duration and higher expenditure, a weekend getaway is what you should look for. THis not only rejuvenates you, but gives you a lasting experience at an affordable cost.
The distance is as less as 150 km from Hyderabad and the road to the destination is also good. A journey on bikes is any day a good choice, else you could always travel the miles in your car. Once you are there, do not forget to check out the Ethipothala waterfalls, The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, the ferry ride on a Parisal to the museum . The first ferry ride to the island starts at 10.30 am and end at 1.30 pm and the last boat back to Nagarjuna Sagar from the island, Nagarjuna Konda, is at 4.30 pm.
So, stick to your schedule, if, you are planning to get on one of the Parisals (round bamboo boat). If you are planning to stay the night, there is accommodation provided at The Haritha Hotel and Vijay Vihar. So, start early, enjoy the drive, take a shower in Ethipothala and enjoy the boat ride while you are in the vicinity.
Medak Cathedral, fort, Pocharam Dam – 97 km
The Medak Cathedral is the largest and a historic church in Telangana and was built in 1924. You will surely be impressed by the architectural marvel of the edifice that had culture, religion and even the nearly-century-old aesthetics.
The cathedral is 100 ft (30 m) wide and 200 ft (61 m) long and the Mosaic tiles used as flooring were imported from Britain. The stained glass windows show the events in the life of Jesus Christ. This church is something that attracts the non-Christian crowd as well for its sheer architectural splendor. Just three km away from the Medak Church is the Medak Fort. This was built by the Kakatiya kings. Therefore, the Fort is dotted with a lot of Kakatiyan architectural styles amid the ruins. You must consider a visit to the fort, for tourism should never end up as a pilgrimage.
The Pocharam Dam is 18 km away from the Medak Fort and if language is a barrier to communication with the locals, one could always use the Google Maps for navigating. The dam is a damn good place to chill and sit back in the sun.
Medak does not have a lot of tourist homes to play host to visitors. So it’s better if you make this as a day plan, unless you are planning on camping the night or staying in a local lodge nearby.
Enter the ORR and take Exit 18 and proceed towards Vikarabad to reach the Ananthagiri Hills. Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Ananthagiri Hills is the most famous tourist attractions. It is the birthplace of the River Musi and the water which flows into the Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar are from there. This is a perfect place to go to for a one day trip. The Ghat roads and the curves amidst the trees will surely make your journey more memorable. Watch out for Monkeys, for they tend to set their camps on roads and disturb motorists. Start early in the morning and you could be back to the city by dusk.
A trip to Suryalanka can be a perfect weekend plan. The distance is good for a long drive. You will be impressed by the serene waters of the surging waves hitting the coast and receding. This is 320 km away from Hyderabad. This works well, for, this trip can be made for a stayover plan, instead of just driving to and fro on a single day. Take a head start by day break and you should reach SuryaLanka in 4-6 hours. The rest of the day can be used for relaxing by the beach. The Kolluru huts is the most famous attractions of all the other scenic places, a trip to Papikondalu has to offer.
