EDM has been making waves in India and the recently-concluded festival season brought international acts to India with almost 6 out of the top 10 DJs (DJ Mag 2015), having played in India in the last year, at festivals like Supersonic, Sunburn and EVC. This year will see Sensation, the ‘World’s leading dance event’, coming to India in a landmark move for India’s dance scene. The event is poised to come to India on March 5, 2016, and will start off the season in India with a bang. The biggest party in the world is coming to India and things are just heating up in anticipation for the big day.
Sensation is pulling a few bold moves by bringing the risqué ‘Pleasure Dome’ concept to India which is the sensual side of the festival. Sensation also has made some unexpected moves by hosting the event in Hyderabad, the city of the Nizam. The open air venue, Gachibowli Stadium, has proved to be perfect and the Sensation team, after scouting four cities, found Hyderabad to be the perfect playground for the ‘Pleasuredome’.
Sensation is being brought to India by Hyderabad-based Voila events and the entire Sensation team have started transforming the landscape of the venue with close to 42 containers of production equipment being shipped straight from Amsterdam. The event gained popularity in the 2000s due to its unique ‘White dress code’ that added to the character of the event. The Sensation brand is owned by ID&T the name behind Tomorrowland (Largest Dance music festival in terms of attendance), Mysteryland (Oldest Dutch festival) and Trance energy.
The festival is known to have some of the largest stage set-ups in the world and focuses on producing a visual spectacle with a unique mix of pyrotechnics, waterworks, larger than life props, fireworks and erotic performances by world-class acrobats, dancers and contortionists.
The event is notorious for going on for 8 long hours, an epic rager that aims at nothing short of euphoria. The event reaches close to 4,500,000 dance fans every year and has travelled 33 countries before making its pit stop in India. It is a homecoming of sorts for Sensation as the very first edition of the party was called ‘Shiva’ which could be traced to the parties’ roots as a Trance Mecca.
The party has evolved over time and has become predominantly a House festival with acts like Chuckie, Swedish House Mafia, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, and Joris Voorn being regulars on the roster. Trance legends like Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Marco V have also been associated with the label. The line-up for India is still under wraps but with the Sensation label, the anticipation is definitely going to be worth it. The tickets for Sensation India are out now and with close to 30,000 people expected to turn out at the event the tickets are in short supply.
