A great setback to the music industry.

Josh Greenberg, the co-founder, entrepreneur and CTO of the web-based music streaming site, Grooveshark, was found dead in his Gainesville, Florida home on July 19, 2015 under mysterious circumstances. He was only 28 years old.

The cause of death still remained mysterious and only a thorough investigation can reveal the facts. But, the Gainesville police confirmed that, as of now, there was no evidence of any suicide or foul play. Even Greenberg’s mother, Lori Greenberg, at a press conference, said that he had no chronic health problems and that he was very much excited about new openings in the music market.

Abby Mayer, the entrepreneur’s girlfriend, told the media that she reportedly found his body lying on the bed after she returned from a weekend trip. It seemed as if he was sleeping.

This sad and surprising news comes just three months after Grooveshark was forced to close following a lengthy legal battle against some major recording industry giants. These companies included the likes of Universal Music Group, Sony Entertainment and Warner Music. On April 30, the company had to shut shop after they agreed to pay the major record labels, a multi-million dollar settlement due to copyright infringement. Also, they allowed everybody to listen to essentially any kind of song free of cost. And, unlike other counterparts like Pandora and Spotify, Grooveshark did not pay the royalties.

It was way back in 2006 when Josh Greenberg along with his friend Sam Tarantino co-founded Grooveshark. At the age of 19, while he was pursuing his undergraduate study at the University of Florida, he founded the company. He was a talented techno-musician.

Greenberg will be sorely missed following his untimely death. A great technocrat, Greenberg will remain in our hearts forever. His willingness to reach out to masses, his struggle to create a free market for all, ending the oligopoly of big brands helped him earn a great applause in the music and tech industry. May his soul rest in peace.
