The Pune International Marathon, which has been the meeting ground for marathon runners for over two decades now, since its start in 1983, is back with yet another energetic edition this year. The 29th Pune International Marathon 2014 would take place at the Khandoji Baba Chowk in Pune and would bring together runners from all walks of life.

Pune, the region, which was once known as the “Oxford of the East” went on to be christened as the “Sports City of the Country,” the credit of this can be attributed to the 28 successful editions of Pune International Marathon. The marathons began way back in 1918 when the famous Deccan Gymkhana hosted the first meeting of the Indian Olympic Association. This was followed by organization of the first ever national marathon of the country in 1919. The event is still considered as a milestone in the history of Indian Sports.
The PIM (Pune International Marathon) is an annual international marathon organized in Pune that had a humble start in 1983 and was the first edition and the first ever Indian International Marathon. PIM attracts many International participants, who compete with national and local runners and during its 28th year, it had over 50,000 participants from India and 35 countries around the world every year.
The event prides of having over 15 lakh participants overall in the 28 editions it has hosted, which includes Late Rajiv Gandhi, Milkha Singh, PT Usha, Kapil Dev Leander Peas and many other dignitaries.
The record of PIM in the Men’s Category is in the name of Kenya’s Joseph Kahugu with timing of 2hrs:13min: 00 and women’s category in the name of Kenya’s Caroline Kilel with the timing 1hrs:10min: 17sec. During this journey the Pune International Marathon also conducted Asian Marathon Championship in the year 2010.
Pune International Marathon 2014 is gearing up to take place in a bigger and better form and is likely to have an increased number of participation from across the globe. The Marathon route consists of Pune’s scenic and historic locations with thousands of spectators lining up along the course to cheer the participants.
