Disaster, according to the United Nations is “a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society.” Disasters in general involve the widespread human, material, economic or environmental impacts,that exceed the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources.

Well now that we have a clear idea of what disaster means, the word Disaster Management, seems self explanatory. It is something that deals with the methods and measures to be taken to help the affected nations to cope up from the disaster they have experienced, by the efficient management of resources and responsibilities that are required for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies, in particular preparedness, response and recovery in order to lessen the impact of disasters.
